Ports of Tamaulipas
Tamaulipas currently has three Integral Port Administrations (API's), Tampico and Altamira in the South (Federal), and Tamaulipas in the North, Puerto de Matamoros (State).
In the port of Altamira we have terminals for multiple uses, fluids, bulk carriers and liquefied natural gas, as well as logistics services companies, which provide a world class service to all port users. It also has rail services, cranes and container terminals
It has 11 shipping lines with weekly frequency and destinations to: East coast of South America, Panama, Mediterranean, Middle East, Egypt, Gulf of Mexico, Europe, Caribbean, Colombia, East Coast.
In addition, there are public terminals in operation where the following types of cargo operate: fluids, multipurpose, fractional load and bulk minerals. In private terminals in operation we can find: fluids, bulk minerals, bulk agro, natural gas and fractional load

The general average of the annual cargo movement operated including oil and its derivatives in the port, was of 8.7 million in the average of the 2001 to the 2012.
The tonnage operated in the Port of Tampico in the January-December period 2012, was 6 million 130 thousand tons serving 534 vessels, registering an increase 2% in relation to the cargo and 18% in operated vessels compared to what was handled in the 2011.
Total tonnage operated: 18% corresponded to Imports, 33% to Exports and 49% to Cabotage.
The imports operated 1 million 94 thousand tons registering a scope of 82% of what was handled in the same period of the previous year. Exports handled 1 million 998 thousand tons that represent a scope of 94% with respect to what was handled the previous year and in terms of cabotage there was a movement of 3 million 37 thousand tons, exceeding by 18% what was handled in the 2011 .

PUERTO DE MATAMOROS

The development of the port of Matamoros, taking advantage of its strategic location in the northeast of the country, has as main objective to support the commercial and industrial operations of the northeast of the country (Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas), as well as strengthen its participation in the National System of security.
Enabled as a port of height and cabotage, it has 400 Hectares available, plus 100 Hectares of industrial area (Additional) also has 500 meters of jetties (with expansion plans up to 1.5 km), 80 mts navigation channel template, 4 draft mts, 2500 mts. in length, a concrete dock of 138 mts by 12 mts

This project represents a wide variety of opportunities for industrial development, among which we can mention: The development in Metal-Mechanics industries (Barges, communication towers and propellers of power generators), export by sea of the mining product, such as: limestones of banks in the Méndez and Cruillas municipalities, import of Machinery and equipment for PEMEX (Burgos Basin).
It will also be a major commercial link with the Port of Houston for redistribution in the Gulf of Mexico and an excellent opportunity for the logistics operation of the Maquiladora Industry and export services located on the state's northern border.
