Founded the 11 of October of 1950 decree No. 294 of the State Congress, being Governor General Raúl Gárate, with head in San Pedro de Roma, now Miguel Alemán, formed approximately with half of families that belonged to the municipality of Mier.
The town of San Pedro de Roma was one of the first to be founded in this region, but until 1927, when the international bridge over the Rio Grande was built, it began to be meaning due to the push of its residents, until it reached the category of city, head of the new municipality.

Each October 11, the foundation of the municipality is celebrated with dances, fireworks, music and fair.
The municipality of Miguel Alemán, located in the northeastern part of the State of Tamaulipas, belongs to the subregion of the same name. It has a territorial extension of 660.49 square kilometers, which represents the 0.62 percent of the state total. It borders the North with the United States of North America; to the south with the State of Nuevo León; to the east with the municipality of Camargo and to the west with that of Mier and the State of Nuevo León.
The municipal seat, Miguel Alemán, is located at 26º 23 '30 "of north latitude and 99º 03' 39" of west longitude, at an altitude of 55 meters above sea level. It has 47 localities, among which are: Miguel Alemán (municipal seat), Los Guerra, Arcabuz, El Nogalito, Los Treviño, El Ranchito and Los Angeles.
The main hydrological resource is the cause of the Rio Grande, which crosses the municipality from west to east, in the northern part of the territory, and the Marte R. Gómez Dam, which has a storage capacity of 2,406 million cubic meters.
The climate classification that prevails in this territory is the driest of the steppes, very warm with an average annual temperature of 28ºC; the maximum of 46ºC and minimum of 2ºC the annual average precipitation is of 450 mm. in the months of May to October, where its highest frequency is recorded. The prevailing winds come from the southwest.
The surface of the municipality is flat, with a gentle slope from west to east that allows dislodging surface currents that occur in the rainy season.
Classification and land use
In the municipal territory the soil is divided into two types, in the northern, fluvial eutricos; to the south, in an 30%, castañozem calcic, so that the region becomes a suitable place for agriculture.
Flora and fauna
Due to the existing climate, the predominant vegetation is classified as thorny clasirosurifolio scrub and thorny scrub. In its northern part, due to the humidity of the permanent currents of the Bravo River, a strip of high subinerme scrub is born.Suggest Edition
