Population Founded the 9 of May of 1766 with the name of Cruillas, in gratitude to the viceroy of Monserrat, Marques de Cruillas, for having agreed to its foundation; I remain under the invocation of ntra. Señora de Monserrat, a title that also led her mission, built near the village and administered by a religious of the Guadalupe School in the province of Zacatecas.

In 1770, the general visitor of the colony of Nuevo Santander said that the layout of the town was well arranged and that some of the houses around his plaza were of limestone; He also mentions that the temple was about to be finished.

At the top of the Sierra de Cruillas, the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Monserrat is located; It is a small mouth of Mina worked during the second half of the eighteenth century, around the royal San Nicolas de Croix. The municipality of Cruillas corresponds to the northern region of the San Fernando subregion. Its territorial extension is 1847.12 square kilometers. which represents the 2.02% of the total area of ​​the state. It adjoins to the north with the municipalities of San Fernando and Burgos; to the south with those of Jiménez and Abasolo; the east with San Fernando and the west with San Nicolás. It is integrated by 87 localities, of which the most important are: Villa de Cruillas (municipal seat), the ravine, San Isidro and Tres Palos.

The municipal head is located at the coordinates 24ª 45 '32 "of north latitude and 38ª 32' of west longitude at a height of 265 meters above sea level.


From the west of the municipality, where the Sierra de San Carlos is located, there are several streams that enrich the flow of the Conchos River, among the most important being El Mimbres and Las Chorreadas.


The climate is divided into two types: In the east, it is the least dry of the steppe, very warm, extreme with the presence of heat. In the western part, it is semi-warm with rains in summer and autumn, extreme and with the presence of canicules.

The temperatures in the east part vary from 22ºC to 26ºC and in the west part from 18ºC to 22ºC. The rainfall that occurs in the municipality of Cruillas varies from 400 to 800 millimeters, with average annual rainfall of the order of 700 millimeters.


In the western part there are mountainous reliefs, where the Sierra de Cruillas is located, derivation of the Sierra de San Carlos.

Classification and land use

Soils, for the most part, are fertile suitable for agriculture. The use of the soil is mainly forest, agricultural and livestock. With regard to land tenure, the small property regime occupies the first place, followed by the ejido.

Flora and fauna

In most of the municipality there is a high thorny scrub vegetation. In the mountainous area, the type of vegetation is high shrub subinerme. Among the species that are located in the municipality, the white wing pigeon stands out.
